A new twist to construction of a Blantyre Convention Centre

A Blantyre resident has obtained a court injunction against the construction of the Indian Government sponsored Convention Centre.

Information sourced VoL indicates the resident, Dan Magazgo, is claiming government has not compensated him for his plot bearing the number CC 1063 in Chichiri, which Blantyre City Council has allocated for the construction of the Convention Centre.

According to the injunction dated 21 November, 2018, which VoL has a copy, government has been ordered to stop developing the 132 hectare land until all compensations have been completed.

VoL’s Chrispine Lwanja called lawyer for Magazgo, Nicely Msowoya, to shade more light on the matter.

Meanwhile, Blantyre City Council, through its spokesperson, Anthony Kasunda, says they have not yet been served with the injunction.

The actual value of the compensation is yet to be determined.
