HRDC condemns political violence

Civil Society Organizations under the banner Human Rights Defenders Coalition – HRDC have called for the arrest of perpetrators of political violence in the country.

In statement released on 5th November 2018,  HRDC has cited the burning of United Transformation Party – UTM vehicles and the torning of  Malawi Congress Party – MCP flags  ahead of the party’s whistle-stop-tours in the Southern Region on Sunday, as some of the examples of such acts of political violence.

Within the statement, HRDC is calling upon relevant authorities like the Malawi Police Service-MPS to carry out a thorough investigation inorder to arrest and chargea all the perpetrators including those that sponsor such kind of uncivilized acts.

Meanwhile, the HRDC is also calling upon State President Peter Mutharika and leaders of other political leaders not only publicly condemn the violence,  but also take concrete measures to curb the vice, by advising their party followers to practise clean politics.
