Malawi Electoral Commission-MEC has assured electoral stakeholders of free, fair and credible 2019 Tripartite elections following lessons learnt from the previous elections.
MEC Spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa, said the electoral body is course to deliver free, fair and credible elections, saying a credible voters’ register which is already in place, is a base to achieving a free, fair and credible elections come May 21, 2019.
According to Mwafulirwa, free, fair and credible elections are not measured by what happens on the polling day, but rather the entire process which comprises several factors including civic education, consultative meetings, voter registration and verification.
Meanwhile, all is set for MEC to start the inspection of the voters’ register on Monday, December 10, through to January 9 next year.
MEC will conduct the exercise in four phases of five days each.
During the Voter registration exercise, MEC registered a total of 6.8 million eligible voters, who are expected to line up to elect a President, 193 Members of Parliament and 462 Ward Councilors during the next year’s elections.
